Can you really get rich being an affiliate?  Really?

Well, there are some who claim that you can get very rich being an affiliate, and there are others who say that you can’t.  So unless you happen to personally know someone who has gotten rich in affiliate marketing, I would say at this point that I don’t know.

Now that doesn’t help much, does it!  I must say that so far, I have not gotten rich in affiliate marketing, but I am going to keep trying! :-)  Because even though I do not know anyone personally who has gotten rich in affiliate marketing, I do “know” some people online who claim to have gotten rich being affiliates.  And unless they are lying, then I believe it is possible.

So how does one get rich in affiliate marketing?

I don’t know if I have room here to give you the full tutorial, so I will give the beginning basics.  I may give more information in future blog posts, if this gets too long.

The first step to becoming an affiliate is deciding on a niche.  What is a niche?  A niche is a category that you are interested in promoting.  It can either be broad (health, fitness, weight loss, internet marketing, getting out of debt) or it can be much narrower (how to stop snoring, 5 steps to increasing your endurance, 7 tips for losing your first ten pounds, how to market your business using classified ads, 10 ways to cut expenses).

It may be a good idea to do some keyword research to find out just how popular your chosen niche really is.  You will need to check to see how many searches are being made on that keyword, as well as how much competition there is in that niche.  If there are not many searches, then it would be harder to get prospects to your site to see your product.  If there is much competition, it will be hard to stand out from the crowd, unless you can come up with a particular twist or something eye-catching.

A good keyword tool is Google AdWords Keyword Tool.  You can find it easily by doing a Google search.  It will be the first listing.  Check it out and play with it for a while to see how it works.

What’s next?

Next, you will need to find products in your chosen niche.  These are usually in the form of ebooks or software, but you could also sell physical products that have affiliate programs.  There are many to choose from, so choose wisely – not all products being sold on the internet are good quality.  If you sell a product that is poor quality, it will affect your own reputation, as well as cause a lot of people to ask for refunds.  So make sure what you want to sell is a good-quality product before you market it.

But how does one find products to sell?

Go to a good search engine and do a search for your niche, with the words “affiliate program” after the niche word(s).  This should pull up many possibilities for both products and vendors (people offering the products to affiliates to sell).  Once again, research to make sure the vendor is reputable and treats the affiliates well.  Or you could just take the easy way out and go to Clickbank to see if there are any products in your niche for sale there.

Three months without blogging is three months too many!  There is a very good reason why we are told to back up our computers!

If you haven’t backed up your computer lately, take some time right now to go do it!  You never know when your computer is going to crash.  And if you don’t have your passwords in your head or on a hard copy, you will lose access to many of your important files!

Well, now that I am back up and running, I will be back to my usual posting very soon.

Is there any way of making a lot of money quickly online?  Actually, there is!

There are a few legitimate companies out there that you can get involved with where, if you know and implement a couple of secrets, you can make good money rather quickly.

Secret #1:  A Compelling Headline

You MUST have a headline that grabs people’s attention and makes them want to read the advertisement/email/article.  If they pass over your headline, there is no way you can get their business.  It MUST make people read your offer!

You might have a headline that says, “How to Have a Positive Attitude.”  That might get some traffic, but a better headline might say, “How to Hit the Delete Button Every Time Doubt Appears (which it will…)”

Do you see the difference?  The second headline catches your attention and makes you want to read on.  The first is rather boring.

So get creative, or take a course on copywriting, to learn how to write good headlines.

Secret #2:  Advertise, Advertise, Advertise!

You may have the best offer in the world, but if you aren’t telling anyone about it, you won’t make any money.  You have to advertise a lot.

It’s best to have many different types of advertising going.  Just one or two ads is not going to bring in much traffic.  The more ads you have out there, the more people are going to see your offer.

It is said that people have to see an ad seven times before they will buy.  So you have to get your ad in front of their eyes frequently.  Which means many different ads all over the internet for an extended period of time (not just a one-time run).

If you can master these two skills, you have a much better chance of making a steady income online.  Or even a lot of money quickly, if you happen to find the right company for that!

But even those who don’t do as well can still make a good amount of money fairly quickly, if they implement the secrets I have shared with you.

You want to write articles, blogs, or other forms of content, but you have learned that you can’t submit duplicate content to different websites.

You have to tweak the article to say things a little differently for each one, which takes a lot of time and effort.

This discourages you from even wanting to try article marketing, right?

Duplicate Content Does NOT Mean You Can’t Reuse Articles!

This is wrong information!  It is a prime example of people who think they know something, turning around and teaching it as fact to others, who then pass it on to others, etc.

So What Does “Duplicate Content” Mean?

Duplicate content just means that you can’t have the same content more than once in the same website!  (Read ezinearticles’ editorial guidelines #1 carefully.  “Original article” just means that YOU have to be the one who wrote it.)

Some people would put the same article on a website more than once to try to skew the search engines in their favor, so that has been banned.

The only time you can’t use the same content on different websites is if the website specifically states that you must come up with “unique” content.  Then you must come up with fresh material.

So take a deep breath, and start writing and submitting those articles you have floating around in your brain!  And relax and have fun with it!  It’s not as hard or time-consuming as you have been led to believe!

Okay, here we are at the last myth!  If you have stayed with me through this series, congratulations!  We are now at the end!

Myth #7:  It’s Only the Ones Who CREATE the Programs Who Make Any Money

This is my favorite myth, because it is the one I hear personally most often from those around me.

And once again, there is a grain of truth in there, but it is not a TRUTH.

It is true that the ones who make the MOST money online are those who create the programs, but even newbies can make money online if they are able to connect with the right program,  the right product, or the right idea immediately.

However, most people will NOT make money right away.  You need to build your list, build a relationship with your list, and THEN you can start making money.  Probably not a lot at first, but eventually you can build up your income, until you are making a good income with your online business.

Once this is rolling, THEN is the time to think about creating your own program, ebook, or whatever you feel led to create, and then YOU can be one of the big success stories!

And this brings us to the end of the 7 Internet Marketing Myths!  I hope you learned something from this series.

Are you ready for our next myth?  Here it is!

Myth #6:  The Big Money Talk is JUST HYPE!

As I’ve told you before, “It takes money to make money.”  Well, it’s true, although it is hard to find experienced internet marketers who will tell you how much they spend on promoting and advertising.

Sometimes you have to dig a little deeper to find the truth in all the hype you read.  It’s a fact that the people who make a lot of money online also spend a lot of money on advertising, tools, resources, salaries to their team, and education.  They also spend a lot of time building their business – it doesn’t happen for them overnight, no matter what the sales letters say.

And it won’t happen overnight for you, either.  If you are willing to take the necessary action to make “big money” happen for you – it will.  But it takes time.

You can criticize, be skeptical, and be sure that “big money” can’t happen for you – and it won’t.  But if you believe that you will succeed, you’re right – you will.

But attitude is a whole ‘nuther blog post!  So we won’t go into it any more here.  Just know that it really is possible to make lots of money online.

And now for our next myth to debunk:

Myth #5:  It’s TOO LATE to Start an Internet Business!

Most internet marketers would love to hear people say, “It’s too late now!” “There’s too much competition!” “The Internet is too complicated!” etc., etc.  You know why?  The less people they have to compete with, the better for them!

The fact is, it’s never, ever too late to start anything, and that includes an internet business.  The internet is not going anywhere.  Every year, the number of people shopping online is increasing, and their spending dollars are growing.  Every year, lots of people start new businesses online, and every year lots of people trying to do business online quit.

There is plenty of room for many, many new online entrepreneurs.  When it seems like the market is getting saturated, just look for new places to advertise.  There really is a market for your business, if you just put forth the effort to find it.

Or better yet, find the market first, and then tailor your business to meet that need!

Are you ready for Myths #3 and #4?  Here they are!

Myth #3:  ANYONE Can Make Money Online

This is simply not true.  Unless you get off your recliner and read everything you can about internet marketing, and unless you put an action plan in motion, you will never make a dime on the internet.  DO NOTHING, MAKE NOTHING.

Also, if you think you are going to make money without putting in a lot of time and effort, you will not make money online.

Another reason for not making money online is if you get involved with the wrong program(s) or the program(s) that are not right for you.  You can spend and lot of time and effort trying to make money, but if the program doesn’t tell you everything (many leave important things out so that you will buy their more expensive program), or if they tell you things that are outdated or just wrong, you can work really hard and still not make a dime!  (This is when it is most discouraging, since you really are trying.)

Another thing that can keep someone from making money online is the wrong attitude.  Having the right attitude is so important to making money!  I personally know someone who has been trying for years to make money being in a home business, but this person has the wrong attitude about the whole procedure, and consequently, has not made any money whatsoever.

Myth #4:  You Can “GET RICH QUICK” on the Internet

This is the trap that a lot of newbie internet marketers fall into, including me when I first started.

Why?  Because scammers make it sound so easy!  Let me tell you, chasing “get rich quick” schemes is a waste of time, money, and energy.  It just won’t happen overnight.

Instead, do some research to find out what people really want and need, and then give it to them!  Especially give them a sense of reality.

Maybe you have already fallen for one of the first four myths.  That is okay.  Don’t berate yourself or call yourself a failure.  Just pick yourself up, shake off the dust, take a deep breath, and start over fresh.

You are only a failure when you stop trying!

Last time, we talked about the first of 7 myths of internet marketing.  Today, we will tackle the second myth.

Myth #2:  Having a Business Online is FREE

Compared to opening your first book store or gift shop in downtown Boston, an internet business’s start-up cost and maintenance costs are pretty low.  But you can do nothing online to make money without at least spending some money.

You need to set up your domain, and then you need to pay for web hosting, an autoresponder, advertising, and ongoing education.  Advertising and education can be as cheap or as expensive expensive as you have the money for.  There are methods of free advertising that can be very effective.

And as for education, there are two ways to look at things:

1. You get what you pay for, or
2. The best things in life are free!  (Or at least inexpensive.)

There are some very good training programs that are quite expensive, but there are also some excellent training programs that are free or very inexpensive.  And you can find programs everywhere in-between.  (Sounds like another good blog post for the future!)
